How to install Drupal

To install Drupal on your Drupal hosting account you have to do a few things.

Create a database for the installation and add a user to it. You can do that from the Databases section of the Pixie control panel.

Download to your local computer the last stable Drupal version from the download section of the official Drupal site. Uncompress the downloaded archive and upload the content directly in the public_html directory on your account, or in a subfolder, depending on whether you want the application to be accessible directly at the root of your domain (e.g. yourdomain.com), or whether you want it to be accessible at a subdirectory of the domain (e.g. yourdomain.com/drupal). You can do that with an FTP client. Alternatively, you can upload the archive without unpacking it, and then uncompress it directly on your hosting account from the Files section of the Pixie control panel.

Next, open the URL address of the application (e.g. yourdomain.com/drupal) with a browser and follow the steps of the installation wizard. The first step is to choose the profile; either standard or minimal. Then select the default language for your site. Drupal comes prepackaged only with English. To learn how to install the application in another language check out the article on installing Drupal in another language.

The next step is for the database. You have to specify the name of the database and the username and password of the database user.

The last step is for the site and administrator information. There you have to set the name, email address, default country and time zone of your site, as well as to specify the details for the administrator account that's about to be created. After you configure these settings you'll receive a message that the installation was successful, and you can go to your new Drupal site.
