How to add, remove and manage subdomains with the Pixie control panel

HostKnox customers can manage their subdomains from the Subdomains section of the Pixie control panel. After you log into the control panel click on the Manage button for the site/account for which you want to manage subdomains and on the following page select the Subdomains section.

On the page that opens you'll see listed the currently existing subdomains, provided you have any. To add a new one click on the Add Subdomain button in the black area on the right. On the next page simply type a name for the subdomain in the text field and click on the Add Subdomain button under it. Type only the name for the subdomain as you want it to be added to the URL address (e.g. example for example.yourdomain.com). Don't type the whole URL address. The subdomain will be added and a root folder for the content of the subdomain site will be automatically created on your hosting account. The full path to a subdomain folder on your account is /home/username/subdomains/name-of-subdomain (in the path username stands for the actual account username and name-of-subdomain for the name of the particular subdomain). This is the folder in which you have to put the files and folders of the subdomain site.

As we mentioned, in the Subdomains section of the Pixie control panel you'll see listed your subdomains. Clicking on the name of a subdomain will expand a small panel with some buttons for managing the subdomain. There's a link that will redirect you to the root folder of the subdomain. There's also a link that opens the URL of the subdomain (e.g. subdomain.yourdomain.com). The buttons that are available for each subdomain are Disable, Rename, Change Document Root and Remove.

If you want to disable a subdomain temporarily so that people will not be able to visit it, click on the Disable button. When you do this an Enable button will appear in its place. To enable the subdomain, simply click on the Enable button. To rename an existing subdomain click on its Rename button; on the following page type the new name in the text field and save the change. With the Change Document Root button you can change the root folder for the content of the subdomain site. With the Remove button you can delete the subdomain. This will remove the subdomain from the virtual host file of your account making the URL of the subdomain practically inaccessible/non-existent. The root subdomain folder with the content of the subdomain site will not be removed from your account.
