How to add customizations to products in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6
PrestaShop has options with which you can enable product customizations. This is done for each product individually. You can allow customers to upload one or more images and/or to type some text. The image(s) and text can then be used to customize the product. For example, if you sell t-shirts, you can offer customers the option to have an image or some text stamped on the t-shirt.
Enable Product Customization
Customizations are enabled for each product separately. If you want to allow customers to customize a product, go to Catalog menu>Products sub-menu and edit the particular product. On the form for editing the product click on the Customization tab on the left. This will display a couple of options: File fields and Text fields. By default, they are both set to 0. The file field is for uploading an image and the text field provides an area for typing some text. You can add one or more fields from each type. Simply set the option to the particular number and click on the Save and stay button. After you do this for each of the fields that you add a couple of other options will appear. One is for a label to be shown next to the option on the frontend. The other one is for making the field required. If the field is required, customers will not be able to order the product without configuring the particular option. If you make changes to any of these options click on the Save or on the Save and stay button.

If you have added to a product fields for customizing it, they will be shown on its page on the frontend. With each file field that you have added customers can upload an image (one per field). They just have to click on the button next to the field and use the window that pops out to choose an image from their local computer. If you have added a text field, there will be a text area on the product's page. Customers can use it to type some text. After they select an image and/or type the text they have to click on the Save button that's under the fields. Otherwise, the customizations will not be saved.
After they order the product the customizations will be attached to it.
Orders with Product Customizations in the Admin Panel
If an ordered product has customizations added to it, they can be seen by viewing the order in the admin panel. When you go to Orders menu>Orders sub-menu in the admin panel you can view the details about each order by clicking on the View button for the particular order. On the page that opens after you do that you can see a table with the ordered product. If there are customizations added to a product, they will be shown under the product. A smaller resized copy of the uploaded image is shown. If you click on it, you can view or download to your local computer the original image in its full size.
