How to install SugarCRM on your account

Before you start the installation process you have to create a new MySQL database for your SugarCRM. You can do this from the Databases section of the Pixie control panel. Add a user to the database.

Next you have to download SugarCRM Community Edition to your local computer. You can do this from the download section of the official SugarCRM site. The Community Edition is free. After you download the archive, unzip it. It should contain one parent directory. Upload the files and folders inside that directory to your SugarCRM hosting account. You can either upload them directly to the root public_html directory on your account (the URL of the application will be yourdomain.com), or you can upload them in a subfolder (e.g. public_html/sugarcrm). You can use an FTP client to upload the files and folders.

Then you have to access the application with your internet browser using the URL address corresponding to the location of the application on your hosting account. This will start the installation process. On the first several pages you don't have to choose anything, so simply click on the Next button. You'll get to a page on which you can choose between a typical install type and a custom install type. The only difference is that with the custom type there are some additional options during the installation process. We suggest you select the typical install and then click on Next.

The next page on which you have to actually configure some settings is the one for the database information. Type the full database name (e.g. masteruser_sugarcrm) in the corresponding field. In the field for Host Name type localhost, and in the fields for Database Administrator Username and Database Admin Password type respectively the username and password for the user that you added to the database. Leave the Sugar Database Username drop-down menu to the default Same as Admin User. From the drop-down menu Populate Database with Demo Data you can choose whether to install or not the sample data. Then just click on the Next button. You'll be asked to confirm that you want to use the specified database. On the next page provide the login details for the administrator. Since the administrator is still not added you can specify any credentials of your choice.

The following page is just a summary of all the configuration and system details. Click on the Install button, and if everything goes smoothly on the next page you'll be informed of the successful completion of the setup process. On the page after it you can register for the SugarCRM newsletter; it's optional.

You also have to change the permissions of some of the SugarCRM files and directories. You can do this with an FTP client. Change the permissions of config.php and sugarcrm.log to 664 and of the directories (including their subdirectories) cache, custom, data, modules to 755. They are located in the root SugarCRM directory on your account.
