How to create and manage product manufacturers in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6
In PrestaShop you can add manufacturers and manufacturer addresses and associate products with manufacturers. The manufacturers are shown in a block on the frontend. When a customer selects a manufacturer all products associated with it are listed.
To add manufacturers go to Catalog menu>Manufacturers sub-menu and click on the button Add new manufacturer (it's labeled Add new in PrestaShop 1.5). This will open the page with the manufacturer settings. Type the name of the manufacturer in the respective field and optionally type a short and are more detailed description using the two built-in text editors. If you want to upload a logo, you can select an image from your local computer using the Logo option. It will be uploaded after you save the manufacturer. You can use the Meta title, Meta description and Meta keywords options respectively to type a title/name, a description and keywords to be used by search engines. The title and the description are also shown on search engine result pages, and the title in particular is shown at the top of the browser when the manufacturer's page is opened.
The Enable option is set to No by default. To be able to associate products with the manufacturer and show its page on the frontend you should set it to Yes. Don't forget to click on the Save button after you configure the options.
Manage Existing Manufacturers
When you go to Catalog menu>Manufacturers sub-menu you'll see a couple of tables. The top one shows the existing manufacturers. If you click on a row in the table or on the View button in the last column, this will display the products and addresses associated with the particular manufacturer. To edit the settings of a manufacturer, click on the arrow next to its View button and in the drop-down menu that appears click on Edit. In the same drop-down menu there's a Delete button with which you can delete the manufacturer.
In PrestaShop 1.5 there's no such drop-down menu. In the last column of the table there are three icons. The one that looks like a pencil is for editing the manufacturer, the one that looks like a magnifying glass is for viewing the products and addresses associated with it, and the trash can is for deleting it.
Add Manufacturer Addresses
To add a manufacturer address, after you go to Catalog menu>Manufacturers sub-menu click on the button Add new manufacturer address. In PrestaShop 1.5 click on the Add new button that's above the table with the existing addresses. This will open the form for adding manufacturer addresses. From the menu Choose the manufacturer select the manufacturer to which you want to assign the address. Then fill out the form (e.g. country, city, street address, etc.). Don't forget to click on the Save button.
Manage Existing Manufacturer Addresses
On the page that opens when you go to Catalog menu>Manufacturers sub-menu there's a table that lists the existing manufacturer addresses. It's the second table. To edit an address either click on its row in the table or on its Edit button. To delete it, click on the arrow next to the Edit button and from the drop-down menu select Delete. In PrestaShop 1.5 both buttons are icons (a pencil and a trash can respectively).
Associate Products with Manufacturers
This is done per product from the settings of each product. After you open the form for adding/editing products click on the Associations tab on the left and on the page that opens use the Manufacturer drop-down menu to select one of the manufacturers that you've added.
