How to add and manage modules in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6

If you want your PrestaShop store to have functions that are not provided by the core installation package, you can search for and install an appropriate module(s) that will add the desired function(s). PrestaShop comes prepackaged with many modules (by default, many of them are not installed). You can manage these modules from the admin panel of your store. In addition to these you can find many more modules on the Internet. To install such a module, first you have to download it, then upload it to your hosting account and install and enable it from the admin panel. In this article we'll briefly go over these things. Search for New Modules and Download Modules

There are many places on the Internet where you can find PrestaShop modules. A recommended place to look for new modules is the addons section of the official PrestaShop site. Another way to search for modules in that section is to do it from the admin panel of your PrestaShop (Modules menu>Modules & Themes Catalog sub-menu).

After you find the module that you want, download it to your local computer (if it's not a free module, you'll have to pay for it first). Make sure that the module is compatible with the PrestaShop version that you use.

Upload Modules to Your Hosting Account

After you download a new module, to be able to install it you need to upload it to your PrestaShop hosting account first. There are different ways you can do this. One way is to do it from the admin panel of your PrestaShop. Go to Modules menu>Modules sub-menu and click on the button Add a new module. A new option will appear on the page; use it to locate the module that's on your local computer and to upload it to your hosting account. PrestaShop will automatically put the module in the correct folder.

Install, Configure, Enable, Disable and Uninstall Modules

To install and manage any of your modules, regardless of whether they are prepackaged with the installation pack or whether you've uploaded them yourself, go to Modules menu>Modules sub-menu in the admin panel. There you'll see listed all modules that are uploaded to your PrestaShop hosting account. The modules are grouped into different sections depending on their functions. For each module there are buttons with which you can perform various actions with that module. If the module is not installed there will be an Install button. There are buttons with which you can enable/disable, configure and uninstall each module.

Note that after you install a module, depending on the particular module, in order for it to be functional you may need to configure its settings.

Update Modules

If there are new versions for any of the uploaded modules, when you go to Modules menu>Modules sub-menu in the admin panel there will be a message informing for which modules there are new versions. If there's a new version for a module, in the list with the modules there will be a button Update it with which you can update the particular module.
