How to add and manage geographical regions in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6

PrestaShop has a set of preconfigured geographical zones. Each country is configured so that it belongs to one of these zones. The zones are used, for example, when configuring the options of your carriers. You can select the zones to which a carrier delivers orders.

Most of the zones correspond to the different continents, with a few exceptions. You can add new zones; you can enable, disable and delete the existing ones, and edit their settings. In this article we'll go over these options. For some more details and screenshots check out the tutorial on how to manage geographical zones in PrestaShop 1.5-1.6.

Add New Geographical Zones

To add a new zone, go to Localization menu>Zones sub-men and click on the button Add new zone (in PrestaShop 1.5 the button is Add new). On the page that opens type a name for the zone in the respective field and from the Active option select whether the zone should be active or not. If a zone is not active, shipping to countries that belong to that zone is not allowed.

After you configure the options click on the Save button.

Edit Zones

To edit the options of a zone, go to Localization menu>Zones sub-menu and in the table with the zones click on the Edit button for the particular zone. There are only a couple of options that you can edit: the name of the zone and whether the zone should be active or not.

In PrestaShop 1.5 the button for editing is an icon that looks like a pencil.

Activate, Deactivate and Delete Zones

When you go to Localization menu>Zones sub-menu you'll see a table with the current zones. There's a column Enabled that indicates which zones are enabled; they have a green checkmark. Those that are disabled have a red X sign. To enable/disable a zone, click on the symbol and it will turn into the opposite one.

To delete a zone, click on the arrow next to the Edit button for the zone and from the menu select Delete. In PrestaShop 1.5 the button is a trash can icon. If the deleted zone had countries assigned to it, you'll have to assign them to another zone (in case you want shipping to be enabled for those countries).
