How to configure Outlook 2007 to connect to an email account

Microsoft Outlook 2007 is an email client for Windows users that comes with Microsoft Office 2007.

Before you add an email account you have to create it from the Email section of the Pixie control panel. If you don't know how to do it read the tutorial on creating an email account.

After you start Outlook go to the Tools menu and select Account Settings. On the window that opens click on the New button. On the next window you have to type your name (any name), the full email address as you have created it from the Pixie control panel, and the password for the email account. After that don't click on Next, but first mark the checkbox labeled Manually configure server settings or additional server types. Then you can click on the Next button. On the next window mark the button Internet E-mail and click on Next.

On the following screen select IMAP or POP3 from the Account Type drop-down menu and type the mail server names. You can either use just your domain name (e.g. yourdomain.com), provided it points to our servers, or you can use the name or IP address of the HostKnox server hosting your account. If you want to use encryption, however, you have to use the name or IP address of the server. Then in the field for User Name type your full email address (e.g. username@yourdomain.com) and the password for the email account in the Password field.

Then click on the More Settings button in the lower right corner of the window. On the new window first click on the Outgoing Server tab and mark the checkbox for My outgoing server requires authentication. Then click on the Advanced tab and if you want to use encryption set both drop-down menus there to SSL.

You also have to set the correct port numbers. For outgoing server (SMTP) with SSL enabled the port number is 465, without SSL it's 587. For IMAP incoming server with SSL set the number to 993, with no SSL the number should be 143. For POP incoming server with SSL the correct port number is 995, without SSL it's 110. After you configure all the options, click on OK. Then on Next and Finish, and that's it.
